IRÚN TOKYO


Anteayer domingo, disfrutando del que será probablemente mi último domingo de playa leí un artículo de Borja Cobeaga en El País, titulado “Agurtzane”, que me inspiró este post y del que reproduzco un párrafo:

“Cuando viajo siempre me acuerdo de ese anuncio de embutido que mostraba a una pareja española caminando por Nueva York. El marido se quejaba amargamente de que llevaban días yendo a restaurantes exóticos y se moría por llegar a casa a comerse un bocadillo de…Y en ese momento aparecía un camión de la marca de embutidos patria, al ritmo de Everybody’s talking, el tema principal de Cowboy de Medianoche. El hombre se quedaba embelesado”.

Yo creo que hay dos tipos de turistas: aquellos a los que se nos nota de inmediato de donde somos y aquellos que tratan por todos los medios de disimular de donde son. Yo creo que en distintas ocasiones, he pertenecido a ambos bandos. Porque lo que tengo claro es que cuando viajo, soy turista, nada de viajera ó aventurera.

En mis últimas vacaciones he viajado con cinco amigas, y así no hay manera de disimular nada. Este verano, en un destino realmente lejano, hemos escuchado eso de “estas son vascas” en un par de ocasiones y juro que no llevábamos ninguna ikurriña ni lauburu ni signo exterior facilmente identificable, y que en ese momento, estabamos calladas.

Los turistas somos así, y tal y como dice el citado artículo, pocos de nosotros podemos evitar emocionarnos cuando estando a miles de kilómetros de casa, encontramos parecidos razonables (o incluso no razonables, porque en la distancia las cosas se ven distintas) con nuestro barrio ó ciudad, ó comemos algo que nos recuerda a nuestra gastronomía o vemos algún signo que identificamos como familiar.

Como cuando este verano hice la foto que ilustra este post en un escaparate de Tokyo. Durante cinco segundos aluciné, luego me di cuenta que no lo estaba leyendo correctamente, pero aún así hice la foto emocionada (hasta hice dos por si acaso).
Y eso que yo no soy de Irún, pero todos estos años trabajando en Irún dejan huella…
